The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located around 15 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip and can be seen from the strip as well. The area itself covers 197,349 acres of large red rock formations and sandstone peaks. The walls can be up to 3,000 feet tall which have made them a very popular destination for hiking and rock climbing, with the highest point of Red Rock Canyon being La Madre Mountain which sits at 8,154 feet tall. Each year over 2 million make the trip out to Red Rock Canyon to see its natural beauty.

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has a one-way loop road that is approximately 13 miles long which allows for vehicle access to many of the areas that tourists would like to see. There is plenty of wildlife to be found at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. There are about 600 species of plants that are known in the canyon area. While hiking you could run into plants like the Joshua tree, Mojave yucca, banana yucca amongst others. Common animals that can be seen along the way are Wild burros, rabbits, squirrels and sometimes Desert bighorn sheep. The area is also protected habitat for the desert tortoise.
